Dewali, also known as Deepavali in Malaysia is celebrated by the Hindus all around the world. The mayor of London had a big festival in Trafalgar Square today to celebrate the occasion (even though the actual day isn’t till two weeks later!). When my friend and I arrived, we noticed the entire square was packed with people! We actually struggled to walk from one end to the other. I was a tad bit overwhelmed by the crowd but was also excited to be in such a cultural event. After walking around for 15 minutes and watching the performances on the big set up stage, we decided to listen to our tummies and headed right towards the fragrant, spice-smelling Indian food stalls. We got ourselves a Bhel with Chutney and some Indian platter with samosas, spring rolls, Alu tiki (such a cute name but definitely did not taste so good) and homemade daal. Overall the food was amazing! We also made two new friends and they introduced us to some Indian sweet desserts. Yum. It is always so exciting and eye opening to experience a cultural festival. I truly believe one of the best ways to learn about a different culture is through your tummy.
