Nice St Nicholas Cathedral

by funnylittlestories

This orthodox Russian cathedral was built in 1912 and is one of the landmarks of Nice. Fun fact, it is also the largest Russian cathedral in western Europe. The architecture is very different from the other cathedrals I have been to. It has six golden bulbs and multiple colors on the exterior. The interior is fairly dark, lit with candles and dimmed lights. It also has a faint smell of incense. While I was inside, I saw a man praying to a picture of mother Mary and baby Jesus. He kissed the feet of baby Jesus and went around and prayed the same way. It was really interesting to see how practice differs within the same religion due to different cultural influence.
